 VALCO AMP REPAIR

These amps are known by many names. Valco built amps for many manufactures,  most notably Gretsch, Supro, Guild and Montgomery Ward. All Valco amps will usually need new filter caps and installation of a grounded line cord for safety. An important detail with these amps is that they often used very cheap ceramic caps in tone and signal path circuits. This is vital to keeping the funky/cheesy sound of these amps. When replaced by modern high quality caps the sound changes drastically. I have collected old ceramic caps over the years and usually can restore "over repaired" Valco's without too much problem. Quite often tube sockets fail in these amps can can be replaced. These amps really shine when played flat out, nice edgy distortion with a old school tone quality. Some of the Gretsch/Valco amps were of quite high quality, easily rivaling Gibson and even some Fender amps in tone and power.
